It appears that Steve Jobs KNOWS I’m considering getting an iPhone.  Yes indeed he knows, and he’s instituted a company wide outage of iPhones.  To wit:

… The iPhone is of-of-stock "company wide," Apple sales representatives said Sunday. The outage has fueled rumors that the next-generation 3G model will be released shortly.

Neither Apple’s U.S. or U.K. online stores have iPhones available for sale, according to their Web sites. At both, the message "Currently Unavailable" appears beside "Ships," which last week was noting a delay of five to seven business days. The company’s German and French e-stores, however, still show 8GB and 16GB iPhones available.

Sales representatives at four major Apple retail stores contacted by Computerworld today said that the iPhone is unavailable, not only at their own stores but across Apple. Most had no explanation why the smart phone is out of stock ….MORE….

 Well now, let me hazard a guess!  Could it be because the latest and greatest will be coming in soon…and what better way to stoke the fires of acquisition than to cause a shortage of the current model?

I can’t wait to see the new Speed Racer movie, can you?  And while I’m champing at the bit, while I have yet to find a Speed Racer iPhone theme, I did uncover:

…The Apple iPhone and iPod touch is increasingly becoming the platform of choice for homebrew game developers and this latest creation looks like it could be a fair bit of fun. Dubbed Raging Thunder, it’s a racing game designed for Apple’s touchscreen handhelds and the cool thing is that it actually makes use of the accelerometer.

Instead of hitting virtual buttons on the screen to steer your muscle car, all you need to do is tilt the iPhone or iPod touch. The controls still seem a little wonky at this point, but I had similar difficulties when I first started racing with the Wii Wheel in Mario Kart Wii. I guess you just have to get used to it. The weird thing is that the game plays in ….MORE…

I remember the first racing game from 1978 - it was the Mattel Auto Race (you can read about it here!).  Oh such memories….

Seems like the demands for iPhones overseas is just growing and growing!  To wit:

…It seems there’s lots of people desperate to get their hands on unopened iPhones — even a couple of weeks before older models are outdated.

A couple of months ago I bought a 16-Gbyte iPhone at the Apple Store, thinking I’d upgrade from my original 8-Gbyte iPhone. But then rumors of the iPhone 2.0 started catching fire, so I didn’t open it. With the release of a 3G iPhone looking likely in early June, I thought it better to wait.

Trouble is, I waited too long to return the unopened iPhone to the Apple Store, which has a two-week return policy. So earlier this week, I put it on Craigslist for $550 ($50 over retail) and crossed my fingers.

Boy, was I surprised. I’ve had several offers, many of them for the inflated price. Most of these buyers asked me if I had more than one phone ….MORE…

Now is this cool or what?  To wit:

…When I first got my iPhone, it was a disappointment not to see lots of games installed from default, but as the application development for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch is amazing, many games have been launched since. The video below shows a new game in development for the iPod and iPhone, its based on a Rubik’s Cube and lets you shake the phone to shuffle the squares, also using the touch screen you can try and get all the sides correct (I have never done this on a real Rubik’s Cubes) ….MORE….

It’s a game called iCube and I even found for you the open source code!  You can check it out at iPhone-iCube.

On Wednesday, we reported that AT&T had begun offering free Wi-Fi access to iPhone users at many of their national Wi-Fi hotspots, including Starbucks and Barnes & Noble locations.

No official announcement had been made, however, and AT&T representatives reportedly declined to comment. Today, many users are reporting that the free iPhone access has been removed and users are unable to log-in with just their phone number. This appears to be true at locations that were verified to offer the free Wi-Fi access just days before.

Based on the screenshot and wording of the login page ("Free AT&T Wi-Fi for iPhone"), there can be no doubt that the service was intentional, but it appears it may have been launched prematurely ….MORE….
